Marcus ("we", "us", "our") is a private AI chat application that connects you to leading AI models while keeping your conversations secure and confidential. This Privacy Policy describes what information we handle, how we protect it, and the choices available to you. By using Marcus, you acknowledge that you have read and understood these terms.

1. Our Privacy Commitment

Your conversations are not transmitted to or stored on Marcus servers. We do not retain your prompts, responses, or any content you generate through the app. Chat history is maintained exclusively on your device and remains under your full control — you can delete individual conversations or all data at any time from within the app.

2. How Your Data Stays Private

When you interact with external AI model providers through Marcus, we act as a secure intermediary. Before forwarding your requests, we remove identifying metadata such as your IP address and device identifiers. Requests are routed so that they appear to originate from Marcus, not from you personally. Our agreements with model providers contractually prohibit them from using your prompts or outputs to train their models, and require them to delete processed data within 30 days, subject to limited safety and legal exceptions.

3. On-Device Processing

Marcus offers a fully offline chat mode that processes your conversations entirely on your device. When using this mode, no data leaves your phone whatsoever. This provides the highest level of privacy for sensitive conversations.

4. Information We May Collect

We collect minimal technical information necessary to operate and improve the service. This may include anonymous crash reports and diagnostic data to maintain reliability. We do not collect personally identifiable information through the app unless you voluntarily provide it (for example, when contacting support). If you use features such as camera or photo library access, the content is processed solely to deliver the requested feature and is not stored on our servers.

5. What We Do Not Do

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We do not serve advertisements within the app. We do not engage in cross-context behavioral advertising or tracking. We do not permit AI model providers to use your content for training purposes. We do not build profiles based on your conversations or usage patterns.

6. AI Model Provider Policies

Your use of AI models through Marcus is subject to each provider's acceptable use policies. These generally prohibit uses that are illegal, harmful, infringe upon the rights of others, or fall within regulated areas such as medical, legal, or financial advice. Marcus enforces these policies and may employ safety mechanisms to prevent misuse.

7. Data Storage and Retention

Your prompts and AI responses are never stored on Marcus servers. Local chat history remains on your device until you choose to delete it. You may configure automatic deletion of conversations after 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days through the app settings. Model providers are contractually required to delete processed data when it is no longer needed to provide the response, and in any case within 30 days. Any diagnostic or security logs we maintain are retained only as long as necessary for operational purposes and are then deleted or anonymized.

8. Your Rights and Choices

You have full control over your data within Marcus. You can delete individual conversations or all chat history at any time. You can choose the offline model for entirely on-device processing. You can enable or disable diagnostic data collection. If you are a resident of the European Union, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, port, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data. If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act provides you with additional rights regarding your personal information. 9. Information Sharing

We share information only when necessary to provide and secure the service. This includes AI model providers (after removing personal metadata and under strict contractual limitations), infrastructure service providers (under confidentiality and data-processing agreements), and legal authorities when required by law or court order. We do not share your information for advertising or marketing purposes.

10. Security

We employ industry-standard security measures to protect the information under our control, including encryption in transit and secure server infrastructure. While we strive to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. In the event of a data breach, we will notify affected users in compliance with applicable law.

11. Children's Privacy

Marcus is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are under 18, you must have parental or guardian consent to use the app. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that their child has provided us with information without consent, please contact us and we will take steps to remove such information.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes before they take effect, giving you the opportunity to review the updated terms. Continued use of Marcus after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
